Sorting Hat Chats: Zootopia
(Have I talked about how much I love this movie? Because I love this movie.)
Judy Hopps might be the Lion-i-est Lion primary to ever Lion. Seriously. From the time she's a little girl, she has this internal conviction that she needs to "make the world a better place." She loves her family in Bunnyburrow, but is perfectly fine with heading out on her own, moving to the big city to fulfill her dreams. Her passion, her drive, is internal and idealistic. She believes so much in the idea of Zootopia. It guides her decisions, the advice she gives, and the way she treats other people. When she acts out of line with her values-- her careless comments about predators are used as justification for mistreating them by the media and by Bellweather-- it eats her up inside. She resigns from the police department and moves home, but is despondent. She's on the verge of burning until her conversation with her parents and Gideon Gray, which proves to her that 1. her idealism made a change in their lives and 2. the fight isn't over! Her Lion spark is reignited, and she speeds off to Zootopia to make things right. She ends the story a more mature Lion: recognizing that "life is more complicated than a slogan on a bumper sticker," but still working to make that dream of Zootopia true.
I think she's a Badger Secondary. Yes, she can be a shouty and charge-y like a Lion, but I think that her real strength is connecting with the people around her. Like Captain America, she creates assets. She uses Nick's street smarts and leverages her connection with Bellweather to access the Jam Cams at City Hall. She and Nick are saved from being iced by the mobster because of the warmth and kindness with which she treats his daughter. She also showcases the Bookkeeper aspect of this secondary through her nose-to-the-grindstone, "I'm not going to write 100 tickets, I'm going to write 200 tickets before noon!" approach to becoming a cop.
Nick Wilde starts the story a burned Badger primary. The childhood trauma that forged him was being rejected by a group. All he wanted was to join the Junior Ranger Scouts: he was excited to put on a uniform and be part of their community. When he's bullied for being a predator, he burns. He looks sort of like a Snake when Judy first meets him-- kinda hedonistic, only looking out for himself-- but as the story progresses, his true Badger self starts to shine through. He knows everyone: Otterton the florist, the mob boss, Flash the sloth... He stands up for Judy to Boggo. He's a mix of trepidatious and excited when Judy suggests that he join the police force. He refuses to abandon her when she's injured, insisting that they come up with another plan. And in the end, he joins the force! He's finally part of a community.
I'm going use Occam's Razor here and say that he's a Snake secondary. One could argue that he's just modeling Snake because that's what's expected of foxes, but I don't see enough evidence of another secondary, so I'm going for the simplest explanation for now. Nick is good at improvising. He's great at taking information and using the environment around him to shape the outcome he wants. When he first meets Judy, he plays her like a violin. "It's called a hustle, sweetheart." He sells skunk-butt rugs to the mobster. His whole popsicle scam?? Snake, snake, snake. He can talk his way out of pretty much any corner. He can go neutral-state blunt on people, but most of the time, he's charming as hell. Judy teasingly calls him "slick Nick."
TL;DR
Judy Is a shining Lion who grows into a more mature version of her primary by the end, with a Badger secondary that uses hard work and the people around her to accomplish her mission.
Nick starts out a burned Badger primary who eventually finds a home with Judy and the police department. His Snake secondary might just be him playing to what people already think foxes are-- I'd love to hear arguments for another secondary!-- but he seems to use these tools naturally.

Let’s Brainstorm a New Disney Park
(For those who missed last weeks blog, check it out here.)
So I know how there’s this big controversy in the Disney Parks community currently about this thing called Genie+ which is a truly terrible app. It would probably make a great topic for a blog entry, but this is my blog so instead I am going to brainstorm an idea for a new Disney park in the Disney World resort. Basically instead of my take on a contemporary issue facing the theme park community you get what I can really only describe as theme park fanfiction. Lucky you.
Anyway, let’s imagine a world where Disney, instead of building up their already existing Florida parks with new attractions, has decided to build a completely new one. What do you do with that?
Well there are first a few things to consider. One of which being the theme of the park. I mean there’s already a park based on fantasy, technology and the world, filmmaking and wildlife, so you may be wondering what’s left. Well, I have some ideas:
1. A Historical Park (which may it’s own problems, see Defunctland’s video on Disney’s America which is this idea)
2. A copy of Tokyo DisneySea
3. A completely original park with no Disney properties
Yeah but I know exactly what Disney would do. They will make a park that has little overarching theme that just focuses on transporting the visitor into the lands of various Disney properties. Those who read last week’s post will find this awfully familiar....
I know that basically making this park the Disney version of Epic Universe is pretty lazy, but it is honestly what I think Disney would go for, even if I think they could do much more creative stuff. Making the most out of this situation, here are some of the Intellectual Properties I want/predict would be in this park
Zootopia Land
I think this one is by far the most obvious, because Disney is already making a Zootopia-themed area for Disneyland Shanghai. A U.S version of this land has not been announced yet, so I think it would make sense to make it a part of this theoretical park.
Muppetland
Another preexisting idea, a themed land based around the Muppets franchise has been talked about for nearly 30 years, with Disney never pulling the trigger. The original idea for the area would’ve been built in Hollywood Studios, then MGM Studios, but was cancelled due to the untimely passing of Muppets creator Jim Henson. I believe that the Muppets still has the potential for a great theme park section. I also believe that Disney is starting to have more faith in the Muppets brand after years pretty much abandoning the franchise.
Night at the Museum
Okay this one may sound weird, but I think it could work. Of course, this is all under the assumption that Disney reboots this former Fox franchise..... Which I am just now learning is happening on Disney+ in the form of an animated TV show, so even better. This was also at one point considered for a theme park ride, and I think that once this reboot comes out, a huge area themed around one of the several museums in the series coming to life would be a great idea for a theme park land.
Okay those were only a few ideas for some of the franchises that I could see being a part of a brand new Disney World theme park. Although a completely unique idea with all new characters and world would still be better in my opinion.

sorry if this is a lil too deep for the monster blog, but you are the only monster content blog i know- do you know/have any observations on how to avoid writing monsters parallel to race? obviously i dont mean like "oops i accidentally wrote a racist stereotype!", i mean how do you write a story that is about monster oppression without pointing towards humanity as a reference point? i like anything that analysizes the potential human-monster relationship without being just depressing
first i wanna say i absolutely think these are things we should be talking about and this being a mostly lighthearted blog doesnt mean i think otherwise, because i love discussing tropes and i think part of wanting to appreciate/make good monster content is talking about the things that dont work as well as the things that do.
second, im a white person and i think its important to ackowledge that any analysis of this subject coming from me is unavoidably gonna be affected by my limited perspective.
i think the best thing we can do for this sort of trope is look at where its done well and where its done not so well. as always, intent is a big factor, as is authorship/the position the authors writing from. the shape of water is a great example of a monster character being written as a parallel to real life oppression but with tact. guillermo del toro has been very open that tsow is intended as an inverse of hollywoods history of monster movies in which the monster was a metaphor for the Other, a force to be feared and hated. guillermo del toro is also a mexican man; his work comes from a place of understanding that experience of being Other in america and from a more intimate understanding of the implicit racism of a lot of the classic monster movies he was inspired by.
some trope breakdown below the cut
some of the biggest (and most spot-on) grievances ive seen with metaphors and messages of oppression particularly in fantasy content are
treating a fantasy species as an overt, overly direct parallel to a specific real life racial group (think detroit become human, bright, etc)
having a monstrous or overall powerful species be feared for their destructive capability, and treating that fear as equal to systemic oppression (think the predator vs prey dynamics in media like zootopia)
having a monster character represent a specific minority group while excluding actual human characters from that group from the rest of the narrative
some possible ways to avoid/address these problems
work within your experience, drawing from your own feelings about being othered rather than appropriating from a movement you dont have a personal connection to (assuming that you dont. again, im writing from my own experiences/practices here) the fear of being treated as an outsider is fairly universal in one way or another and you can draw from that feeling without making a statement about a specific real life issue
you can have a big scary monster who still feels at a disadvantage among humanity by isolating them. keeping with the theme of fishpeople, i recently read a book called our bloody pearl, in which humans and sirens have been at odds for ages in a bloody feud, but the book avoids turning it into an oppression narrative by emphasizing that each group poses an equal danger to the other, just in different ways. if a lone monster of your choosing can take out an army of humans alone, theyre not going to be a believable underdog and its going to be harder to empathize with their plight
this ones the big one! have a diverse cast of humans! if the only character in your cast who has experiences with being ostracized for their appearance/culture/etc is also a horrifying inhuman monster, not only is that probably going to make for a boring unsubstantial relationship between them and human character(s), it sends a really uncomfortable message
not to go back to praising tsow, but one of the main reasons the creature and elisa have such a rich relationship is because she feels that, as a disabled woman who exclusively speaks asl, he understands her in a way many people dont. this is also reflected in her friendships. people who have experienced systemic ostracism are more likely to gravitate towards each other, even if their personal experiences are widely different. celebrate that!
this stuff doesnt have to be depressing. finding someone who sees you no matter who you are or the depths of your differences is a magical thing. you may not be able to entirely cut out human experience as a point of reference, if only because its presumably going to be humans receiving and responding to your work, and we tend to project. but thats not a bad thing!
and like as always consume media, analyze what works and what doesnt, get critique where youre unsure, and keep going with the understanding that it might take a few passes before you find a narrative that really hits.
#ask#hope this helps! i tend to get a little all over the place when the topic of tropes in monster media comes up#meta#what makes it a monster#Anonymous

My top 7 movies of 2016 (and a bonus)
Hey kids! Its that time again! That day you`ve all been waiting for, when I talk about the movies I`ve seen in the cinema and rank them according to my own personal taste and bias!
Except this year there were some... complications. You might have heard about something called the corona virus, a pandemic and stuff like that.
This year I only had time and opportunity to see one movie in the cinema, not enough material to make a list of as you can see. So instead I`ll give you a list of the movies I saw in 2016! Now, if you`re wondering if I`ll do a list of all the movies I saw in 2015 I`ll have to dissapoint you.
I didn`t start keeping track of my movie going experiences until 2016.
(One of these movies came out 2015, and it even came to the cinemas in my country that year but I didn`t get to see it until 2016, so that`s why it`s on this list.)
M`kay? M`kay.
7: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Zack Snyder is good at making a movie look good but he is not a good story teller.
Man of steel had some shortcomings, but surely Snyder would learn from that and do better in the next movie that would help build the DCEU and lead up to Justice league, right?
Nope. Batman kills, Supes is sad, just like most of this movie, and I can`t really take Eisenbergs Lex seroius as a villain.
But atleast Wonder woman is not in the movie long enough for them to screw up her character, so there`s always that.
Overstuffed, not strong enough to live up to it`s own ambitions and uses up all the big guns in it`s climax instead of saving them for later movies. Snyder was not the right guy for these movies. He`s better suited for telling his own stories than others.
6: Suicide Squad
This one gets a better spot than BvS because I like it. I like that Batman was allowed to be Batman this time and not another one of Snyder`s broken antiheroes who are appearently obligated to kill people just because the plot says so. I like that we were introduced to characters that aren`t Batman, Superman or Wonderwoman for a change, the DC comics universe does have more characters than those three after all. I like that they weren`t afraid to introduce magic into the DCEU. I like that Harley Quinn, a character with potential, finally appeared on the big screen.
But the keyword here is "like". Just because you like something doesn`t mean that it`s good.
The plot is admittedly a mess. A mess I could follow, but still a mess. Some consider this movie worse than BvS because that movie at least had ambitions while this does not. Yeah but this was fun, and without ambitions it had one less area where it could fail.
Buut that`s not really an argument in it`s favor.
5: Dr Strange
I feel bad putting it this close to Suicide Squad on the list becuse it is much better than that.
Pretty standard MCU quality. Does not dissapoint but doesn`t excel either.
"Iron Man but on LSD" is an accurate description of the plot but also a very generalizing way of describing the movie. Cool set pieces, original ideas and a clever climax makes it different enough from most of the other chapters in the MCU saga churned out by the giant Marvel movie factory.
4: Star Wars: the force awakens (2015)
I didn`t ask much from the new Star Wars movies. I only wished for two things: Don`t mention Jar Jar or midichlorians.
Besides avoiding those obvious mistakes the movie also had good acting, likeable characters capable of delivering non-wooden dialogue, sets that weren`t completely CGI`d and a pretty engaging scene between Han Solo and Kylo Ren. Sure, it played it a little too safe by borrowing more than a few plot points from A new hope but other than that it did what a Star Wars movie should do.
3: Deadpool
The basic spine of the plot is not very innovative and a little old fashioned: boy meets girl, boy loses girl to kidnappers, boy gets superpowers and rescues girl. But what sets this apart from other movies that have used the same formula is the execution. It has a lot of comedy, raw violence and some self aware fourth wall breaking.
R rated superhero comicbook movies are few and rare. R rated superhero comicbook movies that break the fourth wall are even rarer, and thats what makes this movie intersting.
2: Captain America: Civil War
The MCU has always had a little problem with sequels. A few examples are Iron man 2 and 3 and Thor the dark world. Here`s were the Captain America movies are a golden exception.
Captain America: Civil war did not surprise me as much as Captain America: Winter soldier but it still gave me something to sink my teeth into.
It gives both sides good and understandable reasons to fight for the things they believe in and it introduced two new characters in a way that felt like it helped the plot instead of cluttering it.
It gives you some "Hell Yeah!" moments but also someting to think about.
And now...
Drumroll please.
My number one pick for 2016 iiis...
1: Zootopia
As usual, the movie that gets the number one spot on my list is an animated one that knows how to tug at my heart strings. I like when a movie gets me to feel someting but to get the number one spot on my list a movie needs to do a little more than that, and that`s what this movie did. It made me feel and it made me think.
Some tears, some laughs and a little commentary on todays society.
Here`s where my list would normally end, but this year hasn`t exactly been normal. Before I get to the one movie I actually saw in the cinema this year I`m gonna list some of the movies I planned to see this year but didn`t get the chance to.
Wonder Woman 1984
Onward
Sonic the hedgehog (I did see this one in 2020. On DVD. It was adequate.)
Scoob!
Birds of prey and the fantabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn
The New Mutants
(Black Widow used to be on this list but since it got delayed to 2021 I couldn`t keep it on my 2020 list.)
And now...
Drumroll please... again.
The only movie that I saw in the cinema in 2020 iiis...
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
It is late world war two, we follow Johannes "Jojo" Bretzler, a 10 year old boy who believes in the nazi ideals so much that he has Adolf Hitler himself as an imaginary best friend.
Just when you think that we have made all the movies we can about WWII this movie shows that there are still are a few angles left that we haven`t tried.
Jojo Rabbit shows us not just how dangerous, but also how immature nazism is. The worst kind of immaturity, the kind that lacks any kind of selfawareness and believes that it is dead serious.
If I could to sum up this movie in three words they would be: Important, serious and funny.
And that`s my list, feel free to disagree.
-----------------------------
Deviation nr: 142
Written Stuff nr: 35 I usually post these lists at the beginning of the new year instead of at the end of the old one. But this year there was no point in waiting for any late December releases (for obvious reasons). I had already seen all the movies I could see. Let`s hope that next year is better.

A Frozen 2 review no one asked for! (POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD)
Okay, hear me out. I’m probably in the minority when I say this, but...
I think it’s better than the first one.
I liked the original Frozen just fine. I liked how it depicted anxiety and how it subverted a lot of Disney tropes, but I probably wouldn’t put it in my top ten.
(Which, in case you’re interested, is:)
10. Tarzan
9. Aladdin
8. Beauty and the Beast
7. Frozen 2 (this one!)
6. Lilo & Stitch
5. Wreck-it Ralph
4. Moana
3. The Lion King
2. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
1. Zootopia
(And that’s not even including the Pixar ones.)
But it seems that the general consensus of Frozen 2 is the same as a lot of sequels (especially Disney sequels): that it’s not as good as the first one. Or, dare I say it, that it’s just the first one all over again. But here’s my argument against that. I think being similar to the first one actually works in its favor.
What do I mean by that? Well, after the prologue, the movie opens with a song called “Some Things Never Change,” in which all the characters sing about how happy they are in their current life. Although Olaf worries that change might be inevitable (I love how woke he’s become, btw), no one is really seeking anything new. Now that sounds like the setup for a lot of recent Disney movies, I know. But it's an idea that’s really explored throughout the entirety of the movie.
Every character reacts to change differently. Elsa is nervous, but tries to embrace it anyway; Olaf dismisses it as something he will understand when he’s older; Kristoff feels like he and his friends are drifting apart; and Anna struggles to accept it overall. And we see how each of them goes through it. Even the inclusion of darker themes allows the audience to react similarly to the characters onscreen. Kids probably won’t always understand what’s going on; but they’ll have a good time anyway. And just like Olaf, they’ll understand it when they’re older. That does seem to be one of the major criticisms I’ve seen for Frozen 2, that it’s too dark and too complicated for kids. But Disney’s never been afraid to tackle heavy subjects before, because they know that challenging the audience helps them grow. And hey, at least it’s not Crimes of Grindelwald, right?
I think the reason they made Frozen 2 similar to Frozen 1 was the same reason they used similar themes in Frozen 1 that we were already familiar with - princesses, magical kingdoms, curses, goofy sidekicks. And that’s to deconstruct and subvert them. In fact, I might even go so far as to say that this was an attempt to remind Disney to always try new things, which they have had trouble with recently. Just look at all those live-action remakes that no one asked for. The exact same thing all over again disguised as something new, but without all the stuff that made the originals so good in the first place.
Frozen 2 also continues the tradition of having interesting female protagonists. Well, interesting ANIMATED female protagonists, anyway. It’s not like the Aladdin remake, where Jasmine has a whole new song about girl power, but then she becomes the damsel in distress anyway and does nothing to fight back. It’s not like Captain Marvel, who makes a big deal about being a female superhero even though the Avengers already have several much more interesting female members. It’s not like the new Star Wars movies, in which they’re so focused with making Rey a strong female role model that they forget to give her a personality. And it’s not going to be like the Mulan remake, which I’m just going to assume is going to be another soapbox feminist’s wet dream. Oh, wait, I forgot this is Tumblr, and they love that shit.
But really. Starting with Tiana, Disney’s animated leading ladies have become such well-written characters. From Rapunzel to Vanellope to Judy Hopps to Moana to Elastigirl, they are fully fleshed-out characters first and agenda pushers second. Anna and Elsa are no exception. Elsa battles magical spirits and tames a water horse, and Anna has a crisis of ethics that feels really genuine. All without saying something dumb like “Look how capable I, a female, am in this situation, in comparison to my less competent male companions.”
Oh, by the way, for those of you who wanted Elsa to be revealed as a lesbian, I think we have a few more hints that she may be. She does not end up with a love interest, but I noticed she does seem to get along really well with Honeymaren. So maybe? Definitely better than the live-action Beauty and the Beast, am I right?
Oh, and the songs are great. We get not one, but TWO big numbers from Idina Menzel. Olaf and Kristoff both get new songs that are pointless, but still really funny. Anna has a new song that is one of the emotional highlights. The lyrics are just as clever, and they help further each character’s story arc. Even the lame pop versions of the songs over the end credits, which I usually DESPISE; hearing Imagine Dragons’ cover of “Into the Unknown” was actually pretty decent.
So, those darker themes. The reveal that one of Anna and Elsa’s ancestors was a genocidal tyrant who built the dam as a way to restrict the Northuldra tribe’s resources, and then declared war on them. Pretty ballsy, I have to say. And pretty creative that the villain of this movie is a character who is already dead before the movie even begins. Kind of like Coco, but they don’t even interact with him as a spirit or anything. What I like about this is that it kind of explains why the father in the first movie didn’t always do the right thing when it came to raising his kids. Locking up one of your daughters because she has supernatural abilities seems like a terrible move. But when you consider that Agnarr’s father was also distant from his son and had the goal of suppressing magic, you realize that it may have been a subconscious choice on his behalf. And hey, it’s also revealed that the reason Agnarr left on the ship that would eventually be his grave was to find answers about Elsa. So he probably felt remorse about it.
And now it’s time to compare this movie to today’s political climate. And before you start typing about how I’m wrong like Tumblr users are prone to do, maybe take a hint from the first movie and let it go. This is just my personal analysis.
The Northuldra tribe is clearly inspired by the Sami, the indigenous people of Norway, who have been persecuted for generations. But I don’t know much about Norwegian history, so let’s just compare it to America. Now let’s see...does America have a history of persecuting its indigenous population and disguising acts of war as offerings of peace? Hey, didn’t this movie come out just a week before Thanksgiving?
That’s right, I’m going there. Come to think of it, this whole movie radiates Thanksgiving vibes. It’s set in autumn, and it opens with everyone having a big feast with pumpkins and stuff.
King Runeard is a historical figure within Arendelle, and he is considered a hero. The dam that Runeard built is a monument that is ultimately destroyed by Anna in the film’s climax. And Anna initially refuses to do so because she believes the dam represents all that her kingdom stands for. I might be crazy, but this reminds me of how people are starting to take down statues of Confederate soldiers or how many cities have stopped recognizing Columbus Day as a national holiday, despite others saying that they are important parts of our heritage. One of the lines in “Some Things Never Change” is “Arendelle’s flag will always fly.” Sounds kind of like those conservative nuts who think the American flag is an infallible symbol and anyone who disrespects it (say, by taking a knee during the national anthem) is not a true patriot. Might be grasping at straws with that one.
And what Anna decides to do ultimately makes Arendelle a better place, even though she worries that it will be an unpopular decision. So we have a person in a position of political power who puts aside her own hubris for the good of her people. She asks for nothing in return, and knows that the right choice is not the easy one. She destroys a physical bridge, but builds a metaphorical one. Anna really is the type of leader we need. And if you think that it’s ethnocentric that a white person saves the day for a minority, remember that Anna and Elsa are actually half Northuldran on their mother’s side.
Yes, I believe Frozen 2 is up there with Zootopia as one of the great Disney flexes on right-wing extremists. But it’s subtle enough that we can enjoy the characters, the music, and the story first; and the message second. It reminds us to step outside our comfort zones and to always think about what it means to do the right thing.
If you didn’t like the first Frozen, you probably won’t enjoy this one either. I can understand what people mean when they say the movie throws a lot at you and doesn’t always feel focused on a coherent story. But regardless, I think it is an important movie.

Interestingly the street corners in Barcelona are all angled as you can see. Ildefons Cerdà designed the city before automobiles, he included wide streets and his famous angled corners in anticipation of urban steam trams distributing goods and people. They would need lots of room to turn. These days however the angled corners allow the streets to broaden at every intersection making for greater visibility, and fluid traffic in all directions. Once you notice it while walking around you can appreciate how open the streets are compared to other European cities

rohan’s backstory part 2: hunt for power
finally, i’m proud to announce you the second part of rohan’s backstory. be prepared for a lots of twists this time. time to dive in...
robyn and hannah finally found the time to reveal their new nature when Nick organized a memorial evening for the anniversary of the “snow day” attack being foiled, but also as the anniversary of his parents’, Robin sr and Marian Wlde, death. After Robyn and Hannah gave a speech about how tragic the wave was, but nobody never lost hope against such a disaster, they fused right in front of the guests. Unsurprisingly, everybody was shocked, but not as much as hearing what happened at the canaries, about their infinity-based powers and about Robyn and Hannah keeping the secret and training their new abilities in secret for about a year. After Rohan answered everybodys questions about her, she finished her components’ speech by saying that as a gift for everybody who loved them, cared about them and would never stop, she would have made something impossible; then she snapped her right hand and the whole universe was engulfed by white light for a second. After the snap, Rohan fell unconcious to the floor, unable to move and intangible, but at the same time everyone discovered what the snap did when robyn’s dead siblings, Ryan Ronan and Reginald materialized in front of them from a small whirlind of dust, then Robyn’s grandparents came along materializing in the whirlind, followed by Hannah’s eponymus grandma, Little John, and old family friend, the former mob boss Mr Big and his guard Koslov and ,in the end, victoria todd, the biological mother of robyn’s sister luna. The snap had taken back to life everyone who died between the incursions of the underworld trio, from the last days of the wave disaster, all in perfect health, having aged as if nobody died and with full memories of what happened. Unfortunately, rohan was still unconcious and immaterial and the only way they could carry her was through an electrostatic box invented by their old friend Olivia which was able to catch all the molecules. They brought her to the mayor’s office believing it would have been a safe place.
After nearly eight hours, Rohan started to show signs of recomposing and gaining her conscience back, she would have been back in ten minutes, but unfortunatelty, there wasn’t time to celebrate, as a giant rift opened in the sky above the city hall bringing out a giant starship. Everyone knew that sign was no good and instinctively hid Rohan, hoping no one would find her until she was back. After a few seconds they hid her in the boiler room and squadron of eight green, strange looking aliens smashed into the roof inside the mayor’s office. They identified them as skrulls: alien mutants who could camouflage themselves as any other living species and mimic superpowers. The drop team was lead by a skull called Kl’RT, although he wanted to be called Super Skrull; he claimed to be in search of the fragments of the infinity gems to rebuild the skrull empire and bring glory to it. Nobody knew what was the green leader talking about and remained silent, but when the super skrull mentioned that six fragments dropped into that dimension and listed some of their abilities, after hearing one of said powers was to bring back to life anyone with a snap, everyone (especially Robyn and Hannah’s friends, Kodi, Kion, Olivia and Alice and Robyn’s sister luna) immediately connected the dots and locked the door, while managing to fend off the skrulls; unfortunately the skrull were no match for them, beating everyone and leaving them unconcious, except for Robyn’s mother, Judy and Hannah’s mother, Skye, who they wanted to use as a bait to lure their daughters out.
Meanwhile, Robyn and Hannah found themselves into a strange world composed by a large speck of marble and some ruins, greeted by six spirits, each one colored as the fragments. Those spirits identified themselves as the infinity gems, leaving the married couple astonished for two reasons: 1) they couldn’t believe something tecnically invented could exist, 2) they discovered to be invented charachters from a fictional universe themselves by talking to the spirits. The most important discovery though was why they had basically all the power in the universe, or the multiverse after their discovery of multiple dimensions: in another universe, a group of the most powerful superheroes called the Illuminati, formed by six powerful superheroes of the marvel universe: Iron Man, a genius playboy philantropist millionare turned hero, namor, king of atlantis and the sea, Mister Fantastic, leader or the fantastic 4, Professor x, protector of all mutantkind, Doctor Strange, the sorcerer supreme and Black Bolt, king of the inhumans. They used the gems, wielded by Captain America, the first avenger, to avoid the collision of their universe with a parallel one, but since time ago it was declared the gems could not act together this led to the destrucion of all the gems, especially the time gem whose fragments were scattered through time. In the end Robyn and Hannah learned that the fragments couldn’t find a better possessor over time, but then the infinity spirits found them: during the time of the wave, they were living in a corrupt world, on the brink of collapse, where everybody lost itself, but not them; Robyn and Hannah stayed true to themselves despite all the madness such a disaster could bring, had the power to go through such a situation for so long, they lost loved ones, their minds were torn, but they never gave up, neither stopped loving each other and, literally, they had superpowers. Those feats were more than enough for the spirits to consider the two hybrids worthy. And that was why Robyn and Hannah had the powers of infinity. They thanked the spirits and those greeted the wives back, claiming they could have changed everything. Then they started gaining their concioussness and physical form back.
When they woke up into Rohan, she felt a giant headache and then she heard the scream of Judy and Skye being held. She ran out of the boiler room, only to find everyone lying numb on the floor, except Judy, Skye and the skrulls. Kl’Rt debreifed them about the situation and ordered them to hand him the gems. He was unfortunate not to know he shouldn’t have messed up with the giant hybrid: rohan seemingly gave in, asking for her mothers to be freed; the request was fulfilled, at the terms that Rohan should have gone with the skrulls. As Rohan started advancing to the leader, she quickly started a fight with him, punching the green baddie in the chest and breaking his ribcage; the other skrulls quickly dropped into the fight only to have their ass handed by rohan, one with subdued by rohan’s fighting skills, the other six soldiers were killed, each one by a different power of the fragments. The Super Skrull was not willing to give up and plummeted onto her enemy, seemingly gained the upper hand, until Rohan reunited the fragments into a single gem on her fist and punched it against the super skrull, this time though Kl’Rt was invested by a surge of energy he couldn’t contain. As Rohan kept pressing, the skrull’s body kept flowing energy within, at the point it couldn’t contain anymore. Rohan finished him by blowing his body and soul up. The explosion also blew up the roof of the city hall, but, fortunately, no one else was harmed. The helicopters with the journalist were quick to arrive on the scene when they saw the explosion and started asking questions to rohan. Thinking about what the spirits said, Rohan deicided to take a risky gamble: tired of hiding secrets and knowing said secrets would have been discovered afterwards by die-hard conspirationists, Robyn and Hannah unfused right in front of everybody, revealing to the whole Zootopia their secret identities, their fusion nature and told everything happened inside the city hall: from the drop squad breaking in to the leader blowing up. They clamied to have done so because they felt zootopia needed to know the truth and didn’t want to cover up everything with some half-assed excuse. The only thing they didn’t give away was their companions secret identities, which were safe… or so they thought.
DUN DUN DUUUUUN!!! zootopia knows about robbyn and hannah’s secret! what will happen next?
i will release other rohan based content before publishing the third, and last, part of her backstory. at that point i will be free to post everything. please, as usual, reblog, like and share.
thank you and see you zotopians

Alex Final Wars 2: Dark Alex. Chapter 2: War
The flight back to the typhoon was uneventful and normal, with just some chatter between the team to break the silence. However, Alex did wonder what the meterex commander had been talking about. The commander said he had been in contact with someone, maybe that’s what the big satellite dish was for. As they neared the ship Alex looked over the typhoon. It really was a marvel of engineering, equipped with the latest technology and possessing the ability to fly, despite its massive weight. The vessel carried a skeleton crew and was capable of being operated by one person if necessary. When the crew, usually Alex and Toothdee, we’re away on missions, the typhoon’s automated systems kept it locked down and secure. The ship’s structure consisted of a long engine like shaped main section, with smaller sections built off it. These smaller sections were mostly wings or areas that added more rooms to the ship’s inside. A large conning tower with the bridge extended upward near the rear of the ship, and near the bow was a landing strip and hanger, with the strip being lined with palm trees to add a bit of nature.
Situated inside the typhoon’s hanger and vehicle bays were cars, tanks, speedorz, watercraft, planes, and helicopters. Everything the ship's occupants needed to achieve their objectives. The armory was fully stocked with all sorts of weapons, from swords to even a few prototype railguns, alongside workbenches in case someone felt like creating their own weapons. The typhoon itself was equipped with heavy cannons, machine guns, missile launchers, and everything a normal warship might possess. The interior was also very developed, and modifications had been made to ensure the occupants were comfortable. The whole ship could also be crewed by one person if the situation demanded it.
All these qualities made the ship the perfect headquarters for Heroes, and it would help them to make sure world threats did not go unnoticed and unchecked. Alex was the group’s leader, having the rank of captain, despite being rather young. Toothdee was second in command, with both of them acting as the organization’s highest authority, though usually, Toothdee was subordinate to Alex.
In the past the team had done jobs for the government, usually doing something like taking out an illegal organization. But they had also gotten themselves into a fair share of situations that they had to fight their way out of by themselves. After the Battle of Zootopia, where the city was freed from meterex occupation, the government had decided to give the team an official name and symbol, more monetary funding, and almost unlimited independence. To Alex and Toothdee the situation had seemed almost to good to be true, but they were glad the team’s combat prowess had lead to this. Heroes was a faction that was capable of defeating any threat, and achieving any objective.
The symbol of this strong organization consisted of a yellow curved ribbon, with the word “Heroes” on it I’m black ink. Above that was a white fist, symbolizing strength. The typhoon was covered in this logo, along with the team’s weapons, gear, and vehicles, and to many, it was a symbol of hope.
Being so lost in thought, Alex almost didn’t notice that the helicopter had landed inside the typhoon. Toothdee went up to the bridge, while the other 3 mammals headed to the armory to get rid of their gear.
“You two did good,” Alex said to Kion and Jasiri, unloading his rifle and placing the unused ammo in a case.
“Thank you” Kion replied, with Jasiri adding that it meant a lot to them.
“Don’t mention it” Alex said, putting away his sword. “I knew you two would do great”
The trio finished putting away their weapons and gear before Toothdee called them to the bridge via the intercom.
“Alex, Kion, Jasiri, please report to the bridge”
Upon arrival at the bridge, the trio saw Toothdee looking at a computer and sighing.
“You alright?” Alex asked before Toothdee stood up and turned to the group.
“The Chinese fired at a US warship passing through territory they claim is theirs, but it’s really international waters. They killed most of the crew and completely destroyed the ship. Congress has voted to declare war in response to further Chinese aggression. As of this moment, the United States of America is at war with the People’s Republic of China”
There was heavy silence in the room as everyone thought about what this meant. The worlds 2 most powerful militaries were going up against each other. Alex hoped that this conflict did not permanently scar the world in unrepairable ways.
“Damn,” Kion said, while Jasiri shook her head.
“I’ve been told that Heroes has been given full operational authority to act as it pleases, as long as we’re fighting the Chinese” Toothdee said, before sighing.
“Well, there’s no use being down about the outbreak of war,” Alex said “what happened, happened, and it’s our job to deal with the fallout. I’ll go tell our analysts to get to work on a preliminary report that could give us an edge early on in this war”
“Tell them they’re going to be having their work cut out for them,” Toothdee said.
“Will do!”
Alex walked through the hallways of the typhoon, till he came to a room that said “Analysis and Logistics” on the door outside.
Entering the room Alex was greeted by rows of desks with computers, alongside large servers, and stacks upon stacks of paper strewn about the room. A small coffee maker sat on one of the desks and the air was filled with the hum of computers.
“Haida! Retsuko!” Alex said, not sure if the two were in the room or not.
“Coming! Coming!” A female voice said from behind one of the servers nearby.
A female red panda and a male hyena, both hailing from the city of Tokyo Japan came into view and walked up to Alex to speak with him. These 2 managed all of Heroes data and logistics. While the job might not be action-packed, it was no doubt necessary.
“Have you heard the news?” Alex said, quickly getting to the point.
“That we’re at war?” The hyena, Haida said. “Unfortunately, yes”
“anyways, I need you to create a preliminary report, updating us on everything we need to know to get an edge on the Chinese in the early stages of this war”
“Already done!” Haida said, retrieving a packet of papers from a nearby printer, before grabbing a stapler.
“Make sure it’s stapled at a 45-degree angle!” Retsuko, the red panda said.
“Yeah, I got it”
The hyena stapled the papers together, before handing the packet to Alex.
“Thank you, you two work quick”
“Well, that’s why we’re here,” Retsuko said “And believe me, this job is a lot better than our last one”
“Don’t even get me started” Haida said.
“You should have seen our boss’s face when we gave him our resignation letters!”
“Ha, well as you were,” Alex said, leaving the room, and subsequently hearing the pair inside start flirting from the outside.
Alex looked through the packet, it mentioned known Chinese base locations, a few bits about Chinese troop movements, and detailed info about many other topics relating to the Chinese military. This was certainly going to be one hell of a war, and Heroes was about to be very busy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, now that conflict has broken out in the world, things should get interesting. Also, I'm pretty sure that China will ban this post in the country. But I hope you all enjoyed this chapter!

Upcoming Must-See Movies in 2021
https://ift.tt/2LtrBLV
It’s 2021. Finally. If you’re reading this, it means you’ve hopefully gotten through the wreckage of last year unscathed and are ready for a brighter future. And if you’re also a movie lover, this certainly includes a trip (or 20) back to the cinemas. Although a month into the new year, and our hope for a better tomorrow has faded a bit–especially with new COVID variants spreading. Yet there is reason to remain warily optimistic. Yes, including about theaters
For nearly a year now cinemas have remained largely dormant, and given the already shuffling 2021 film calendar, that will continue for the foreseeable future. However, studios (with one notable exception) remain mostly committed to getting new films to the theater this year, and the current 2021 film slate gives reasons to be hopeful.
Indeed, 2021 promises many of the most anticipated films from last year, plus new surprises. From the superhero variety like Black Widow to the art house with Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, 2021 could be a much needed respite. So below is just a sampling of what to expect from the year to come…
Judas and the Black Messiah
February 12
It’s kind of hard to wrap one’s head around the annual “Oscar race” in a year when little trophies don’t seem so damn important, but Warner Bros. feels strongly enough about this movie that it’s getting it into theaters and on HBO Max right in the thick of the pandemic-delayed awards season. And judging by the marketing, it’s bringing heat with it.
Shaka King directs and co-writes the story of Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya), who became the chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party in the late 1960s and was murdered in cold blood by police in 1969. LaKeith Stanfield plays William O’Neal, a petty criminal who agreed to help the FBI take Hampton down. This promises to be incendiary, relevant material — and it’s almost here.
Minari
February 12
Lee Isaac Chung directs Steven Yeun–now fully shaking off his years as Glenn on The Walking Dead–in this semi-autobiographical film about a South Korean family struggling to settle down in rural America in the 1980s. Premiering nearly a year ago at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won both the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award, Minari had a quick one-week virtual release in December, with a number of critics placing it on their Top 10 lists for 2020.
Its story of immigration and assimilation currently has a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics lauding its heart, grace, and sensitivity. A few of ours also considered it among 2020’s best.
Nomadland
February 19
Utilizing both actors and real people, director Chloé Zhao (The Rider, Marvel’s upcoming Eternals) chronicles the lives of America’s “forgotten people” as they travel the West searching for work, companionship and community. A brilliant Frances McDormand stars as Fern, a woman in her mid-60s who lost her husband, her house, and her entire previous existence when her town literally vanished following the closure of its sole factory.
Zhao’s film quietly flows from despair to optimism and back to despair again, the hardscrabble lives of its itinerant cast (many of them actual nomads) foregrounded against often stunning–if lonely–vistas of the vast, empty American countryside.
I Care a Lot
February 19
A solid cast, led by Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage, Chris Messina, and Dianne Wiest, star in this satirical crime drama from director J. Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed). Pike plays Marla, a con artist whose scam is getting herself named legal guardian of her elderly marks and then draining their assets while sticking them in nursing homes. She’s ruthless and efficient at it, until she meets a woman (Wiest) whose ties to a crime boss (Dinklage) may prove too much of a challenge for the wily Marla. It was one of our favorites out of Toronto last year.
The Father
February 26
Anthony Hopkins gives a mesmerizing, and deeply tragic, performance as Anthony, an elderly British man whose descent into dementia is reflected by the film itself, which plays with time, setting, and continuity until both Anthony and the viewer can no longer tell what is real and what is not. Olivia Colman is equally moving as his daughter, who wants to get on with her own life even as she watches her father’s disintegrate in front of her.
We saw The Father last year at the AFI Fest and it ended up being a favorite of 2020; Hopkins is unforgettable in this bracing, heartbreaking work, which is stunningly adapted by first-time director Florian Zeller from his own award-winning play.
Chaos Walking
March 5
This constantly postponed sci-fi project has become one of those “we’ll believe it when we see it” films until it actually comes out. Shot nearly three and a half years ago by director Doug Liman, Chaos Walking has undergone extensive reshoots and was at one point reportedly deemed unreleasable.
Based on the book The Knife of Letting Go, it places Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home) and Daisy Ridley (The Rise of Skywalker) on a distant planet where Ridley, the only woman, can hear the thoughts of all the men due to a mysterious force called the Noise.
Raya and the Last Dragon
March 5
Longtime Walt Disney Animation Studios head of story, Paul Briggs (Frozen), will make his directorial debut on this original Disney animated fantasy, which draws upon Eastern traditions to tell the tale of a young warrior who goes searching for the world’s last dragon in the mysterious land of Kumandra. Cassie Steele will voice Raya while Awkwafina (The Farewell) will portray Sisu the dragon.

How Raya and the Last Dragon Became the First Disney Movie Made at Home
By David Crow
Movies
Warner Bros. and HBO Max 2021 Film Slate Destroys Theatrical Window
By David Crow
Disney Animation has been nearly invincible in recent years with other hits like Moana and Zootopia, so watch for this one to be another major hit for the Mouse.
Coming 2 America
March 5
The notion of whether nostalgia-based properties are still viable has cropped up repeatedly in the last few years. However, streaming, which is where Coming 2 America finds itself headed post-COVID, makes golden oldies much safer. This sequel—based on a 32-year-old comedy that was one of Eddie Murphy’s most financially successful hits—sees Murphy back as Prince Akeem, of course, along with Arsenio Hall returning as his loyal friend Semmi.
The plot revolves around Akeem’s discovery, just as he is about to be crowned king, that he has a long-lost son living in the States (we’re not sure how that happened, but let’s just go with it). That, of course, necessitates another visit to our shores—that is, if Akeem and Semmi presumably don’t get stopped at the border. The film reunites Murphy with Dolemite is My Name director Craig Brewer, so perhaps they can make some cutting-edge social comedy out of this?
Godzilla vs. Kong
March 26
Here we are, at last at the big punch up between Godzilla and King Kong. They both wear a crown, but in the film that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have been building toward since 2014, only one can walk away with the title of the king of all the monsters.
Admittedly, not everyone loved the last American Godzilla movie, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but we sure did. Still, Godzilla vs. Kong should be a different animal with Adam Wingard (You’re Next, The Guest) taking over directorial duties. It also has a stacked cast with some familiar faces (Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, and Ziyi Zhang) and plenty of new ones (Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Danai Gurira, Lance Reddick, and more).
It’ll probably be better than the original, right? And hey with its HBO Max rollout, questions of a poor box office run sure are conveniently mooted!
Mortal Kombat
April 16
Not to be deterred by the relative failure of Sony’s Monster Hunter in theaters at the tail end of 2020, Warner Bros. is giving this venerable video game franchise another shot at live-action cinematic glory after two previous tries in the 1990s. Director Simon McQuoid makes his feature debut while the script comes from Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and the cast includes a number of actors you’ve seen in other films but can’t quite place.
The plot? Who knows! But we’re guessing it will feature gods, demons, and warriors battling for control of the 18 realms in various fighting tournaments. What else do you want?
Black Widow
May 7
Some would charitably say it arrives a decade late, but Black Widow is finally getting her own movie. This is fairly remarkable considering she became street pizza in Avengers: Endgame, but this movie fits snugly between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. It also promises to be the most pared down Marvel Studios movie since 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and that’s a good thing.
In the film, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff is on the run after burning her bridges with the U.S. government and UN. This brings her back to the spy games she thought she’d escaped from her youth, and back in the orbit of her “sister” Yelena (Florence Pugh). Old wounds are ripped open, old Soviet foes, including David Harbour as the Red Guardian and Rachel Weisz as Nat and Yelena’s girlhood instructor, are revealed, and many a fight sequence with minimal CGI will be executed.
How’s that for a real start to Phase 4? Of course that’s still assuming this comes out before The Eternals after it was delayed, again, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Those Who Wish Me Dead
May 14
Taylor Sheridan is among the best writers in moviemaking right now. Having all but cornered the niche around modern Westerns, he’s responsible for the scripts for Hell or High Water, both Sicarios, and Wind River, the latter of which he also directed. He’s back in the director’s chair again for Those Who Wish Me Dead, which has been described as a “female-driven neo-Western” set in the Montana wilderness. It is there a teenager witnesses a murder, and he finds himself on the run from twin assassins, and in need of protection from a likely paranoid survivalist. The film stars Angelina Jolie, Jon Bernthal, Nicholas Hoult, Tyler Perry, Aidan Gillen, Jake Weber, and Finn Little.
Spiral
May 21
Chris Rock has co-written the story for a new take on the Saw franchise. Never thought we’d write those words! The fact that it also stars Rock, as well as Samuel L. Jackson, is likewise head-turning. It looks like they’re going for legitimate horror with Darren Lynn Bousman attached to direct after helming three of the Saw sequels, and its grisly pre-COVID trailer from last year.
Hopefully this will be better than most of the franchise that came before, and given the heavily David Fincher-influenced tone of the first trailer, we’re willing to cross our fingers and play this game.
Free Guy
May 21
What would you do if you discovered that you were just a background character in an open world video game—and that the game was soon about to go offline? That’s the premise of this existential sci-fi comedy from director Shawn Levy, best known for the Night at the Museum series and as an executive producer and director on Stranger Things. Ryan Reynolds stars as Guy, a bank teller who discovers that his life is not what he thought it was, and in fact isn’t even real—or is it? We’ve seen a preview of footage, so we’d suggest you think Truman Show, if Truman was trapped in Grand Theft Auto.
F9
May 28
Just when you thought this never-say-die franchise had shown us everything it could possibly dream up, it ups the stakes one more time: the ninth entry in the Fast and Furious saga (excluding 2019’s Hobbs and Shaw) will reportedly take Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his cohorts into space as they battle Dom’s long-lost brother Jakob (John Cena, making a long-overdue debut in this series). Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron all also return, as does director Justin Lin, who took a two-film break from his signature series. Expect to see the required physics-defying stunts, logic-defying action and even more talk about “family” than usual.
Cruella
May 28
Since Disney has already made an animated 101 Dalmatians in 1961 and a live-action remake in 1996, it is apparently time to tell the story again Maleficent-style. Hence we now focus on the viewpoint of iconic villainess Cruella de Vil, played this time by Emma Stone. She’s joined in the movie by Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Mark Strong, with direction handled by Craig Gillespie (sort of a step down from 2017’s I, Tonya, if you ask us).
The story has been updated to the 1970s, but Cruella–now a fashion designer–still covets the fur of dogs for her creations. This is a Mouse House joint, so don’t expect it to get too dark, and don’t be completely surprised if it ends up as a premium on Disney+ in lieu of its already delayed theatrical release.
Infinite
May 28
This sci-fi yarn from director Antoine Fuqua (The Equalizer) stars Mark Wahlberg as a man experiencing what he thinks are hallucinations, but which turn out to be memories from past lives. He soon learns that there is a secret society of people just like him, except that they have total recall of their past identities and have acted to change the course of history throughout the centuries.
Based on the novel The Reincarnationist Papers by D. Eric Maikranz, this was originally a post-Marvel vehicle for Chris Evans. He dropped out, and the combination of Fuqua and Wahlberg hints at something more action-oriented than the rather cerebral premise suggests. The film also stars Sophie Cookson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Dylan O’Brien.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
June 4
James Wan is already directing a new horror film this year so he’s stepping away from the directorial duties on the third film based on the paranormal investigations of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). That task has fallen to Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona), so expect plenty of the same Wan Universe touches: heavy atmosphere, superb use of sound, and shocking, eerie visuals.
Details are scarce, but the plot—like the other two Conjuring films—is taken from the true-life case of a man who went on trial for murder and said as his defense that he was possessed by a demon when he committed his crimes. That’s all we know for now, except that, intriguingly, Mitchell Hoog and Megan Ashley Brown have been cast as younger versions of the Warrens.
In the Heights
June 18
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first Broadway hit musical gets the big screen treatment (by way of HBO Max) from director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians). Set in Washington Heights over the course of a three-day heat wave, the plot and ensemble cast carry echoes of both Rent and Do the Right Thing. While a success on the stage—if not quite the cultural phenomenon that Miranda’s next show, Hamilton—it remains to be seen whether In the Heights can strike a chord with streaming audiences.
Luca
June 18
Continuing its current run of all-new, non-sequel original films started in 2020 with Onward and Soul, Pixar will unveil Luca this summer. Directed by Enrico Casarosa–making his feature debut after 18 years with the animation powerhouse–the film tells the story of a friendship between a human being and a sea monster (disguised as another human child) on the Italian Riviera. That’s about all we have on it for now, except that the cast includes Drake Bell and John Ratzenberger.
Pixar’s recent track record has included masterpieces like Inside Out, solid sequels like Toy Story 4, and shakier propositions like The Incredibles 2, but we don’t have any indication yet of what to expect from Luca.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
June 25
Can anyone honestly say that 2018’s Venom was a “good” movie? A batshit insane movie, yes, and perhaps even an entertaining one in its own nutty way, but good or not, it made nearly a billion bucks at the box office so here we are.
Tom Hardy will return to peel more scenery down with his teeth as both Eddie Brock and his fanged, towering alien symbiote while Woody Harrelson will fulfill his destiny and play Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage, the perfected hybrid of psychopathic serial killer and red pile of vicious alien goo. Let the carnage begin!
Top Gun: Maverick
July 2
It’s been 34 years since Tom Cruise first soared through the skies as hotshot pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, and he’ll take to the air once more in a sequel that also features Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, and more. The flying and action sequences from director Joseph Kosinski (who worked with Cruise on Oblivion) will undoubtedly be first-rate, but the studio (Paramount) has to be nervous after seeing one nostalgia-based franchise after another (Blade Runner, Charlie’s Angels, Terminator, The Shining) crash and burn recently.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
July 10
With Shang-Chi, Marvel Studios hopes to do for Asian culture what the company did with the groundbreaking Black Panther nearly three years ago: create another superhero epic with a non-white lead and a mythology steeped in a non-Western culture. Simu Liu stars in the title role as the “master of kung fu,” who must do battle with the nefarious Ten Rings organization and its leader, the Mandarin (the “real” one, not the imposter from Iron Man 3, played here by the legendary Tony Leung). Director Destin Daniel Cretton (Just Mercy) will open up a whole new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with this story and character, whose origins stretch back to 1973.
The Forever Purge
July 9
One day nearly eight years ago, you went to see a low-budget dystopian sci-fi/horror flick called The Purge, and the next thing you know, it’s 2021 and you’re getting ready to see the fifth and allegedly final entry in the series (which has also spawned a TV show). Written by creator James DeMonaco and directed by Everardo Gout, the film will once again focus on the title event, an annual 12-hour national bacchanal in which all crime, even murder, is legal. How this ends the story, and where and when it falls into the context of the rest of the films, remains a secret for now. Filming was completed back in February 2020, with the film’s release delayed from last summer by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Space Jam: A New Legacy
July 16
There are two types of folks when it comes to the original Space Jam of 1996: those who were between the ages of three and 11 when it came out, and everyone else. In one camp it is an unsightly relic of ‘90s cross-promotional cheese; in the other, it’s a sports movie classic. Luckily for kids today, NBA star LeBron James was 11 for most of ’96, and he’s bringing back the hoops and the Looney Tunes in Space Jam: A New Legacy.
The film will be among the many Warner Bros. pics premieres on HBO Max and in theaters this year, and it will see King James share above-the-title credits with Bugs Bunny. All is as it should be.
The Tomorrow War
July 23
An original IP attempting to be a summer blockbuster? As we live and breathe. The Tomorrow War marks director Chris McKay’s first foray into live-action after helming The Lego Batman Movie. The film stars Chris Pratt as a soldier from the past who’s been “drafted by scientists” to the present in order to fight off an alien invasion overwhelming our future’s military. One might ask why said scientists didn’t use their fancy-schmancy time traveling shenanigans to warn about the impending aliens, but here we are.
Jungle Cruise
July 30
Disney dips into its theme park rides again as a source for a movie, hoping that the Pirates of the Caribbean lightning will strike once more. This time it’s the famous Adventureland riverboat ride, which is free enough of a real narrative that one has to wonder why some five screenwriters (at least) worked on the movie’s script.
Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) directs stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt down this particular river, as they battle wild animals and a competing expedition in their search for a tree with miraculous healing powers. The comic chemistry between Johnson and Blunt is key here, especially if they really can mimic Bogie and Hepburn in the similarly plotted The African Queen. If they can sell that, Disney might just have a new water-based franchise to replace their sinking Pirates ship.
The Green Knight
July 30
David Lowery, the singular director behind A Ghost Story and The Old Man & the Gun, helmed a fantasy adaptation of the Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. And his take on the material was apparently strong enough to entice A24 to produce it. Not much else is yet known about the film other than its cast, which includes Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Ralph Ineson, and Kate Dickie–and that it’s another casualty of COVID, with its 2020 release date being delayed last year. So this is one we’re definitely going to keep an eye on.
The Suicide Squad
August 6
Arguably the most high-profile of the WB films being transitioned to HBO Max, The Suicide Squad is James Gunn’s soft-reboot of the previous one-film franchise. It’s kind of funny WB went in that direction when the first movie generated more than $740 million, but when the reviews and word of mouth were that toxic… well, you get the guy who did Guardians of the Galaxy to fix things.

The Suicide Squad Trailer Promises James Gunn’s “1970s War Movie”
By David Crow
Elements from the original movie are still here, most notably Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, but the film promises to be weirder, meaner, and also sillier. The first points are proven by its expected R-rating, and the latter is underscored by its giant talking Great White Shark. Okay, we’ll bite.
Deep Water
August 13
Seedy erotic thrillers and neo noirs bathed in shadows and sex are largely considered a thing of the past—specifically 1980s and ‘90s Hollywood cinema. Maybe that’s why Deep Water hooked Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal) to direct. The throwback is based on a 1957 novel by the legendary Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley), and it pits a disenchanted married couple against each other, with the bored pair playing mind games that leave friends and acquaintances dead. That the couple in question is played by Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, who’ve since become a real life item, will probably get plenty of attention close to release.
Respect
August 13
Respect is the long-awaited biopic of the legendary Aretha Franklin, with the Queen of Soul herself involved in its development for years until her death in August 2018. Authorized biopics always make one wonder how accurate the film will be, but then again, Aretha had nothing to be ashamed of. Hers was a life well-lived, her voice almost beyond human comprehension, and the only thing now is to see whether star Jennifer Hudson (Franklin’s personal choice) and director Liesl Tommy (making her feature debut) can do the Queen justice.
The King’s Man
August 20
This might be a weird thing to say: but has World War I ever seemed so stylish? It is with Matthew Vaughn at the helm.
An origin story of sorts for the organization that gave us Colin Firth and the umbrella, The King’s Man is a father and son yarn where Ralph Fiennes’ Duke of Oxford is reluctant about his son Conrad (Harris Dickinson) joining the war effort. But they’ll both be up to it as the Duke launches an intelligence gathering agency independent from any government. It also includes Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as charter members.
Oh, and did we mention they fight Rasputin?
Candyman
August 27
In some ways it’s surprising that it’s taken this long—28 years, notwithstanding a couple of sequels—to seriously revisit the original Candyman. Director Bernard Rose’s original adaptation of the Clive Baker story, “The Forbidden,” is still relevant and effective today. Back then, the film touched on urban legends, poverty, and segregation: themes that are still ripe for exploration through a genre touchstone today.
After her breathtaking feature directorial debut, Little Woods, Nia DaCosta helmed this bloody reboot while working from a screenplay co-written by Jordan Peele (Get Out). That’s a powerful combination, even before news came down DaCosta was helming Captain Marvel 2. And with an actor on-the-cusp of mega-stardom, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, picking up Tony Todd’s gnarly hook, this is one to watch out for.
The Beatles: Get Back
August 27
Peter Jackson seems to enjoy making films about what inspired him in his youth: The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, his grandfather’s World War I service informing They Shall Not Grow Old. So perhaps it was inevitable he’d make a film about the greatest youth icon of his generation, the Beatles. In truth, The Beatles: Get Back is a challenge to a previous documentary named Let It Be, and the general pop culture image it painted.
That 1970 doc by Michael Lindsay-Hogg zeroed in on the band’s final released album, Let It Be (although it was recorded before Abbey Road). Now, using previously unseen footage, Jackson seeks to challenge the narrative that the album was created entirely from a place of animosity among the bandmates, or that the Beatles had long lost their camaraderie by the end of road. Embracing the original title of the album, “Get Back,” Jackson wants to get back to where he thinks the band’s image once belonged.
Resident Evil
September 3
Let’s try that again. As one of the most popular video game franchises of all-time, the original handful of Resident Evil games appeared ready made for adaptation. Visibly inspired by cult classic zombie movies from George Romero, Resident Evil once even had Romero attached. Instead we got the deafeningly dull Paul W.S. Anderson franchise starring Milla Jovovich. And those decade-spanning monstrosities lacked something any self-respecting zombie film needs: brains.
Now Resident Evil is back in a reboot helmed by writer-director Johannes Roberts. And he’s off to a promising start by apparently focusing on the plots of the first several video games in the series. The cast includes Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, and Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker. So far so good. Fingers crossed.
A Quiet Place Part II
September 17
The sequel to one of 2018’s biggest surprises, A Quiet Place Part II comes with major expectations. And few may hold it to a higher standard than writer-director John Krasinski. Despite (spoiler) the death of his character in the first film, Krasinski returns behind the camera for the sequel after saying he wouldn’t. The story he came up with apparently was too good to pass up.
The film again stars Emily Blunt as the often silenced mother of a vulnerable family, which includes son Marcus (Noah Jupe) and deaf daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds). However, now that they know how to kill the eagle-eared alien monsters who’ve taken over their planet, the cast has grown to include Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou. While the film has been delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak, trust us that it’ll be worth the wait. Is it finally time for… resistance?
Death on the Nile
September 17
Murder on the Orient Express (2017) became a surprise hit for director and star Kenneth Branagh. Who knew that audiences would still be interested in an 83-year-old mystery novel about an eccentric Belgian detective with one hell of a mustache? Luckily, Agatha Christie featured Poirot in some 32 other novels, of which Death on the Nile is one of the most famous, so here we are.
Branagh once again directs and stars as Poirot, this time investigating a murder aboard a steamer sailing down Egypt’s famous river. The cast includes Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Letitia Wright, Tom Bateman, Ali Fazal, Annette Bening, Rose Leslie, and Russell Brand. Expect more lavish locales, scandalous revelations, the firing of a pistol or two, and, yes, more shots of that stunning Poirot facial hair.
The Many Saints of Newark
September 24
The idea of a prequel to anything always fills us with trepidation, and re-opening a nearly perfect property like The Sopranos makes the prospect even less appetizing. But Sopranos creator David Chase has apparently wanted to explore the back history of his iconic crime family for some time, and there certainly seems to be a rich tapestry of characters and events that have only been hinted at in the series.
Directed by series veteran Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), The Many Saints of Newark stars Alessandro Nivola as Dickie Moltisanti (Christopher’s father), along with Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Corey Stoll, Ray Liotta, and others. But the most fascinating casting is that of Michael Gandolfini—James’ son—as the younger version of the character with which his late dad made pop culture history. For that alone, we’ll be there on opening night… even if that just means HBO Max!
Dune
October 1
Could third time be the charm for Frank Herbert’s complex novel of the far future, long acknowledged as one of the greatest—if most difficult to read—milestones in all of science fiction? David Lynch’s 1984 version was, to be charitable, an honorable mess, while the 2000 Sci-Fi Channel miniseries was decent and faithful, but limited in scope. Now director Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Arrival) is pulling out all the stops—even breaking the story into two movies to give the proper space.

What Alejandro Jodorowsky Thinks of the New Dune Trailer
By Mike Cecchini and 1 other
On the surface, the plot is simple: as galactic powers vie for control of the only planet that produces a substance capable of allowing interstellar flight, a young messiah emerges to lead that planet’s people to freedom. But this tale is dense with multiple layers of politics, metaphysics, mysticism, and hard science.
Villeneuve has assembled a jaw-dropping cast, including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem, and if he pulls this off, just hand him every sci-fi novel ever written. Particularly, if relations between the director and WB remain strained…
No Time to Die
October 8
Nothing lasts forever, and the Daniel Craig era of James Bond is coming to an end… hopefully in 2021. In fact, delays notwithstanding, it’s a bit of a surprise Craig is getting an official swan song with this movie after the star said he’d rather “slash his wrists” before doing another one. Well, we’re glad he didn’t, just as we’re hopeful for his final installment in the tuxedo.
Director Cary Joji Fukunaga is a newcomer to the franchise, but that might be a good thing after how tired Spectre felt, and Fukunaga has done sterling work in the past on True Detective and Maniac. He also looks to bring the curtain down on the whole Craig oeuvre by picking up on the last movie’s lingering threads, such as 007 driving off into the sunset with Léa Seydoux’s Madeleine Swann, while introducing new ones that include Rami Malek as Bond villain Safin and Ana de Armas as new Bond girl Paloma. Yay for the Knives Out reunion!
Halloween Kills
October 15
2018’s outstanding reboot of the long-running horror franchise—which saw David Gordon Green (Stronger) direct Jamie Lee Curtis in a reprise of her most famous role—was a tremendous hit. So in classic Halloween fashion, two more sequels were put into production (the second, Halloween Ends, will be out in 2022… hopefully).

Curtis is back as Laurie Strode, along with Judy Greer as her daughter, Andi Matichak as her granddaughter, and Nick Castle sharing Michael Myers duties with James Jude Courtney. Kyle Richards and Charles Cyphers, meanwhile, will reprise their roles as Lindsey Wallace and former sheriff Leigh Brackett from the original 1978 Halloween (Anthony Michael Hall will play the adult version of Tommy Doyle). The plot remains a mystery, but we’re pretty sure it will involve yet another confrontation between Laurie and a rampaging Myers.
The Last Duel
October 15
What was once among the most anticipated films of 2020, The Last Duel is the historical epic prestige project marked by reunions: Ridley Scott returns to his passion for period drama and violence; Matt Damon and Ben Affleck work together for the first time in ages as both actors and writers; and the film also unites each with themes that were just as potent in the medieval world as today: One knight (Damon) in King Charles VI’s court accuses another who’s his best friend (Adam Driver) of raping his wife (Jodie Comer). Oh, and Affleck plays the King of France.
With obviously harrowing—and uncomfortable—themes that resonate today, The Last Duel is based on an actual trial by combat from the 14th century, and is a film Affleck and Damon co-wrote with Nicole Holofcener (Can You Ever Forgive Me?). It’s strong material, and could prove to be one of the year’s most riveting or misjudged films. Until then, it has our full attention.
Last Night in Soho
October 22
Fresh off the success of 2017’s Baby Driver (his biggest commercial hit to date), iconoclastic British director Edgar Wright returns with what is described as a psychological and possibly time-bending horror thriller set in London. Whether this features Wright’s trademark self-aware humor remains to be seen, but since the film is said to be inspired by dread-inducing genre classics like Repulsion and Don’t Look Now, he might be going for a different effect this time.
The cast, of course, is outstanding: upstarts Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit) and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) will face off with Matt Smith (Doctor Who), and British legends Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp. And the truth is we’re never going to miss one of Wright’s movies. Taylor-Joy talked to us here about finding her 1960s lounge singer voice for the film.
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins
October 22
While the idea of a Hasbro Movie Universe seems to be kind of idling at the moment, corners of that hypothetical cinematic empire remain active. One such brand is G.I. Joe, which will launch its first spin-off in this origin story of one of the team’s most popular characters. Much of his early background remains mysterious, so there’s room to create a fairly original story while incorporating lore and characters already established in the G.I. Joe mythos.
Neither of the previous G.I. Joe features (The Rise of Cobra and Retaliation) have been much good, so we can probably expect the same level of quality from this one. Director Robert Schwentke (the last two Divergent movies) doesn’t inspire much excitement either. On the other hand, Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) will star in the title role, and having Iko Uwais (The Raid) and Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) on board isn’t too bad either.
Antlers
October 29
Dramatic director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Hostiles) is doing a horror movie. As we live and breathe. And he’s doing it with a huge boost of confidence from Guillermo del Toro, who has opted to produce the movie. Antlers is the tale of two adult brothers, one a teacher and the other a sheriff, getting wrapped up in a supernatural quagmire that involves a young student and a “dangerous secret.” And with a cast that includes Jesse Plemons, Keri Russell, and Graham Greene, we are very intrigued… even if we must wait once again due to a coronavirus delay.
Eternals
November 5
Based on a Marvel Comics series by the legendary Jack Kirby, the now long-forthcoming Eternals centers around an ancient race of powerful beings who must protect the Earth against their destructive counterparts (and genetic cousins), the Deviants. Director Chloe Zhao (fresh off the awards season buzzy Nomadland) takes her first swing at epic studio filmmaking, working with a cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Brian Tyree Henry, and more.

The Incredible Hulk’s Diminished Legacy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
By Gavin Jasper
In many ways, Eternals represents another huge creative risk for Marvel Studios: It’s a big, cosmic ensemble film introducing an ensemble that the vast majority of the public has never heard of. But then, it’s sort of in the same position as Guardians of the Galaxy from way back in 2014, and we all know what happened there.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife
November 11
With the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot criticized (fairly) for its lack of imagination and castigated (unfairly as hell) for its all-female ghost-hunting crew, director Jason Reitman–finally cashing in on the family name by returning to the brand his dad Ivan directed to glory in 1984–has crafted a direct sequel to the original films.
Set 30 years later, Afterlife follows a family who move to a small town only to discover that they have a long-secret connection to the OG Ghostbusters. Carrie Coon (The Leftovers), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) star alongside charter cast members Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, and, yes, Bill Murray.
King Richard
November 19
Will Smith’s King Richard promises to be a different kind of biographical film coming down the pipe. Rather than being told from the vantage of professional tennis playing stars Venus and Serena Williams, King Richard centers on their father and coach, Richard Williams. It’s an interesting choice to focus on the male father instead of the game-changing Black daughters, but we’ll see if there’s a strong creative reason for the approach soon enough. The film is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (Monsters and Men, Joe Bell).
Mission: Impossible 7
November 19
Once upon a time, the appeal of the Mission: Impossible movies was to see different directors offer their own take on Tom Cruise running through death-defying stunts. But then Christopher McQuarrie had to come along and make the best one in franchise history (twice). First there was Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and then Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Now McQuarrie and company have set up their own separate quartet of films with recurring original characters like new franchise MVP Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) across four films.

Thus enters M:I7, the third McQuarrie joint in the series and first half of a pair of incoming sequels filmed together. The first-half of this two-parter sees the whole crew back together, including Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, Ilsa, Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther (Ving Rhames), and CIA Director Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett). They’re also being joined by Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff, but really we’re all just eager to see what kind of insane stunts they can do to top the HALO jump in the last one.
Nightmare Alley
December 3
Director Guillermo del Toro is finally back with a film which was originally intended for release in 2020. But like so many others, Nightmare Alley saw its production frozen due to the coronavirus. Del Toro’s first film since winning the Best Picture Oscar for The Shape of Water, Nightmare adapts William Lindsay Gresham’s novel of the same name. With a script by Kim Morgan and del Toro, it tracks a mid-20th century carny played by Bradley Cooper who is also a silver-tongued grifter. But his con meets its match (and is then outclassed) by his chance encounter with a psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett). They’ll make a hell of a team.
West Side Story
December 10
Steven Spielberg has just two remakes on his directorial resume: Always (1989) and War of the Worlds (2005). While the former is mostly forgotten and the latter was an adaptation of a story that has been filmed many times, his upcoming reimagining of West Side Story will undoubtedly be directly compared to Robert Wise’s iconic 1961 screen version of this classic musical.
A few numbers in previous films aside, Spielberg has never directed a full-blown musical before, let alone one associated with such powerhouse songs and dance numbers. His version, with a script by Tony Kushner, is said to stay closer to the original Broadway show than the 1961 film—but with its themes of love struggling to cross divides created by hate and bigotry, don’t be surprised if it’s just as hard-hitting in 2021. Certainly would’ve devastated last year….
Spider-Man 3
December 17
Sony has finally gotten to a “Spider-Man 3” again in their oft-rebooted franchise crown jewel (technically though this film is still untitled). That proved to be a stumbling block the first time it occurred with Tobey Maguire in the red and blues, but the company seems undaunted since Tom Holland’s third outing is expected to bring Maguire back—him and just about everyone else too.

It’s a Spidey crossover extravaganza that’s only missing a Spider-Ham. But just you wait…
The Matrix 4
December 22
Rebooting or continuing The Matrix series has always been a tough proposition. While the original Matrix film is one of the landmark achievements in science fiction and early digital effects filmmaking in the 1990s, its sequels were… less celebrated. In fact, directors Lily and Lana Wachowski were publicly wary about the idea of ever going back to the series. And yet, here we are with Lana (alone) helming a project that’s been a longtime priority for Warner Bros.

The Matrix 4 also brings back Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith. This is curious since Reeves and Moss’ characters died at the end of the Matrix trilogy—and also because Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus did not, yet he wasn’t asked back. We cannot say we’re thrilled about the prospect of more adventures in Zion after the disappointment of the first two sequels, but we’d be lying if we didn’t admit we’re still curious to see the story that brought Lana back to this future.
The French Dispatch
TBA
Wes Anderson has a new film coming out. Better still, it is another live-action film. While Anderson’s use of animation is singular, it’s been seven years since The Grand Budapest Hotel, which we maintain is one of the best movies of the last decade. Anderson is working with Timothée Chalamet and Cristoph Waltz for the first time with this film, as well as several familiar faces including Saoirse Ronan, Willem Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, and, of course, Bill Murray.
The French Dispatch is set deep in the 20th century during the peak of modern journalism, it brings to life a series of fictional stories in a fictional magazine, published in a fictional French city. We suspect though, if Anderson’s last two live-action movies are any indication, it’ll have more than fiction on its mind–especially since it’s inspired by actual New Yorker stories, and the journalists who wrote them! We missed it in 2020, so here’s hoping it really does go to print in 2021!
Other interesting movies that may come out in 2021 but do not yet have release dates: Next Goal Wins, Don’t Worry Darling, Blonde, The Northman, Resident Evil, Red Notice, Army of the Dead.

A/N: An anon request for a Jemily fic where Emily has had an awful day and JJ comes over with the boys to help cheer her up. They all watch movies and eat junk food and JJ finally realizes how much she loves Emily.
----
JJ: What’s up?
Em: Shitty day. Broke up with the ex again. About to drown myself in a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.
JJ: Want me to bring the boys over? They’d love to see you. After Will and I separated, it’s been difficult for them.
Em: I can always, always see you and the boys.
JJ: Sweet, we’ll be over in a little bit. And I’ll bring more ice cream.
Emily plopped down on the couch faster than she did for the premiere of Game of Thrones. She and her ex had been on and off and on and off so many times that it was a wonder it took them this long to call things off for good. Her ex was fed up with her schedule and Emily hadn’t been fully in the relationship ever since JJ and Will broke up. Seeing JJ single brought back all those feelings that she’d long since tamped down.
Every time they were together, Emily’s thoughts drifted off, so she hadn’t been present in the relationship since, and frankly they’d called things off so many times that it was easier to do it this time and do it for good.
A knock at the door startled her. When she looked at the time, she couldn’t believe she’d been off in dreamland for nearly a half hour; it felt like five minutes. But when she looked through the peephole of her apartment, she saw JJ and the boys, both bouncing happily up and down. “Emily!”
“Who’s that?” She asked facetiously. “Who could be standing outside my door?”
“It’s me! Henry! And Michael and mom are here too!”
Emily’s saddened smile turned into a genuine one as she opened the door to bear hugs from some of her favorite boys in the whole world. “Mom has ice cream,” Henry said. “And we brought movies!”
Reaching into his backpack, he pulled out a couple of movies: Moana, Captain America: Winter Solider and Civil War, Big Hero 6, and Zootopia. “Which one do you want to watch first?” He asked her.
“How about Big Hero 6? I think I need Baymax and my boys to cheer me up.”
JJ smiled when the boys ran toward the couch. Henry took the initiative and placed the movie in the DVD player while JJ and Emily portioned out some ice cream for the boys and took a separate pint to split. “Everything okay? Was it at least easier this time?” JJ asked. Emily and her ex had seemed so good for each other for such a long time, but recently (and by recently she meant like the past two years) things just weren’t working out; it was hard to let a relationship go - she knew that from experience.
“Yea,” Emily replied, hip-checking JJ as they made their way back to the couch to sit on either side of the boys. “It was time. Still tough though.”
“Well, movies and ice cream will make it better.”
“And you three,” she said, smiling.
Big Hero 6 was exactly what she needed. As soon as the movie started, she and JJ noted how similar the brother Tadashi sounded to their new co-worker Matt, and from there on out, they couldn’t keep the smiles off their faces. “Zootopia?” Michael asked, waddling over to the stack of movies. “Zootopia.”
Emily kissed him on the top of the head and put the movie in the DVD player. As her back was turned, JJ found herself confronting the feelings she’d been having for some months now. With Emily in and out of a relationship, she hadn’t wanted to muddle things further by confessing that she’d started to have romantic feelings for her, but now that she was out of the relationship (for good this time), she found her mind wondering again.
She started to get nervous. Should she say something? At all? In front of the boys? She didn’t know how to go about any of this. She and Will had been together for so long that she’d forgotten how to go about these kinds of things. Thankfully, she didn’t have too long to think about it because the boys started fawning over Zootopia the moment it came on. Halfway through the movie, Michael fell asleep against Emily’s side. Henry was going to follow suit soon; JJ could tell by the way his eyelids drooped and then popped back open. Sure enough, by the end of the movie, he was fast asleep. “I think we’re stuck,” she whispered, giggling to herself at how immovable they were.
“It could be worse,” Emily replied. “Way worse.” She ran her fingers gently through Michael’s hair and felt much more at ease than she had before. Smiling, she turned towards JJ. “Thanks for coming over.”
“Anytime,” she said. “Feel better.”
“Much.”
A slightly awkward silence hung in the air. “Em?”
Something in her best friend’s voice said that small sound had much more behind the simple syllable. “Yea.”
“After I broke it off with Will, I started realizing something...”
The corner of Emily’s lip twitched upward. “Me too. I’ve been so on and off in my relationship, and I only recently figured out why that was.”
Recognition dawned on JJ’s face. “Really?” The words hadn’t even been spoken, but with them it didn’t have to be. “I don’t know where you are in the whole wanting a relationship or wanting some space thing, but I did want to let you know that...I’m...interested.”
Gently, Emily moved her hip out from under Michael’s head, which fell softly to the couch. JJ took her lead, carefully placing Henry’s head on the opposing end. Making sure they were still asleep, Emily reached out her hand for JJ, taking her fingers and tugging her into the kitchen and into her embrace. “I am too. I don’t want to take things to quickly, but that’s only because I don’t want the boys to feel like I’m stepping in on Will’s territory. That’s the last thing I want. But at least you know that with me, you won’t have to worry about whether your S/O will love your kids.”
JJ blushed and leaned her head into Emily, reveling in the feel of her lips grazing her forehead. “Thank god,” she laughed.
As she picked her head up, Emily couldn’t hep but feel that this was right. Her last relationship hadn’t felt right for years, it’s just that they’d had such history that it had been hard to let go. With JJ though, not only did they have history, but they already wanted the best for each other. Both already knew the hectic nature of their schedule. Emily ran her hand up JJ’s back and up alongside her neck, bringing her finger underneath her chin to tilt her face toward her lips. When their lips connected, JJ melted into her. “Mmm, this is nice. How did we go so long without doing this?”
“I have no idea,” JJ replied dreamily. “But I guess we don’t have to wait any longer.” Turning around, she and Emily looked at the boys, breaths still rising and falling steadily against the couch. Emily had been afraid that if anything ever did happen with JJ, it would’ve felt weird, but standing here in this moment felt as natural as breathing.

Zootopia was released in 2016 in America that too in 3d, it is basically a computer-animated comedy film. From this journey, there have been many Zootopia Fanfiction Lovers all around the globe. Zootopia was released by Walt Disney pictures and the exact release date of Zootopia is February 13, 2016. Let's Begin Our Collection of the Best Zootopia Fanfiction on the internet.
Straight_up_geek Why did Disney make me ship and bunny and a fox together??
Kido Zootopia is one of the few Disney movies I feel actually NEEDS a sequel. There’s so much more world and character building they could do.
zootman Ive never gone crazy with any disney princess couples, but now im shipping a bunny and a fox so hard. Omg
arman-shk If you ship Judy and Nick put a thumbs up. And if you want to let me know why you ship them.
peolk.s Ok but low key Judy and nick remind me so much of rapunzel and Eugene. Must be the similarities that make both of them my favorite movies and characters😍
super35 Why Did Disney Tell Me To Ship Them , THEN NO KISSING SCENE?!?!
love_u I'd be more than happy to see them as an official couple. And if there's a sequel on the way...lead down that road
here_i_am That's now what I say to my friends in gta when somebody attacks me. "Boys, Ice Em "
dum dudu If ever there was an Oscar for best animated performance, Nick Wilde would easily win. Jason Bateman really delivered with this role, especially the fact that he improvised a lot of the dialogue.
c@re They are cute couple specially the fox ia handsome and the bunny is so cute Zootopia was the 55th Disney feature animated movie, Byron Howard and Rich Moore were the directors of this movie. Fanfiction Zootopia lovers are also huge fans of these two individuals. The Co-director of Zootopia was Jared Bush. Zootopia Fanfiction Human Voice lovers who love the voice in the film are mentioned below.
We hope you guys liked our collection of the best Zootopia Fanfiction Updates, that we are providing you guys. Please share this as much as possible.
Zootopia Fanfiction Human version 2020
The voices that rocked the movie all around the world were Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and others are mentioned down below in the other section of this Zootopia Fanfiction Stories article. The reason why we give the emphasis on these Zootopia fanfiction human voice personalities were the real reason for the blockbuster of Zootopia. YB Judy: it just burns me up to see such a bad attitude forwards foxes.. Also Judy: carries an anti fox spray Alyssa Love the subtle racism. She is surprised that a fox can be smart, and condescendingly praises him for being "articulate." Nick sarcastically calls her non-patronizing afterwards. 😂 Fallen Tacozz Judy: Are your costumers aware... They are getting snot and mucus with there cookies and cream. Boy elephant: Spits out ice cream on girl elephant: )X Random person Judy: are your customers aware their getting snot and mucus in their cookies and cream The couple with cookies and cream: OH FUC- Brandon Christopher The initial prejudice by the cop to assume that violence (reaching for her weapon) was the best way to handle the Fox... That's how it is and feels. Plus being judged by the owner of the ice cream shop in front of everyone is demeaning as well...for example when you're followed around the store and treated poorly wherever you go. (Black people of color equal income and credit get less money for loans for homes and businesses than white people of the exact same qualifications.) Rhonda howard Even when she thinks she's done something nice she's still treating them like they're less than with her tone as the Fox points out. lego nightwing Prejudice is going away but it's still very real. I appreciate all people white, black and all colors and backgrounds who understand this and fights against it. jackson selqiust "Now that is high praise. It's rare that I find someone so non-patronizing." blitz sapphire This is a great subtle jab Nick makes at Judy here that flew over my head the first time I heard it. The praise that Judy gives him is so condescending when you really think about it. It's that "wow, you're really well-spoken for a black person" compliment. Roeland Farah The fur textures in this movie are amazing. Blows my mind tbh Hoping that you guys liked our collection of the best Zootopia Fanfiction Human Version, that we are providing you guys. Please share this as much as possible. Fanfiction Zootopia Stories Updated in 2020 The Story of Zootopia revolves around the unlikely relationship or you can say the partnership between a very smart red fox and a rabbit police officer(who always dreamt of being an officer since Her Childhood). That's why people love Such Fanfiction Zootopia stories. These two try to find out a criminal conspiracy that connects them to the unusual disappearance of the predators. miss anime "I'd lose my head if it weren't attached to my neck. That's the truth." So me😂😂 dylingr The writing in this scene is so well-written. It captures both the big and small instances of racism that often happens; both the hostile side and the non-hostile side. Favorite moments: "I'm such a..." "You probably can't read, fox" "I just want to say you're a great dad and a real articulate fellow" "Oh, well that is high praise. It's rare that I find someone so non-patronizing. *fake smile*" citavalo If it ended it like that, you can call it a short animation with a message behind it. animal fafic I love this movie so much. It makes me smile, brings up all sort of expressions I'm not aware of until afterwards. That's how you know it's a good movie. You're so invested in it that you don't even know what your face looks like. You're just totally in the world of the film. John martin "real articulate fella" that's the best compliment you could come up with. Did you think he couldn't speak English or something and are pleased he can. Dude you deserved to be had xxlinuxxx Fashionably late guys. Or a sloth uploaded it or something "new and hip" like that lmao. bazil I had this happen at a store when I came in to do some grocery shopping. I'm the type to wear band tees and jeans (it goes with the story I'm about to tell) and that's my usual attire. takimg a shower, dried my hair (which is always wavy and voluminous) brushed my teeth, had to go out to get food. already had some items in my basket when I was looking around in one aisle and an employee who was stocking items was watching me. I smiled at them and went back to looking at the boxes of pasta in front of me. Next thing I know, I have the manager asking me what I was doing and the guy I smiled at standing behind him. bazil I was asked for my ID and when I did, they said that it was fake. I do look younger than I am. They asked me to leave. I said I had money and wanted to pay for my items. They said I won't be paying with anything that's not mine (they thought my ID was fake and my credit cards were fake, therefore, believing I am a thief..like I was just going to walk out with my basket) I said, no everything I have is real and that I'm not a teen looking to steal. Even when I showed the manager my credit cards, he automatically said, "That doesn't mean anything to me." I got a full "up down" look from the stocking guy, like just because I'm very skinny with wild hair and had on a band tee and ripped jeans didn't mean shit. I put my basket down and left. odinia legend has it you can still her the toot toot to this day raven paruli Me: this cookies and cream ice cream is really great! News Cast says that there is bacteria in ice cream We are sure that you people loved our collection of the best Fanfiction Zootopia stories, that we are providing you guys. Please share this as much as possible. Zootopia Fanfiction Lemon Series As the Story continues the fox fond himself having a crush on the lady rabbit officer. We are sure that we have some of the dirty-minded people here visiting this webpage about Zootopia Fanfiction Lemon Stories. Zootopia was released in Belgium in 2d, Digital 3d and also in ReadD 3d, the best was Imax 3d formats in the united states. Mr Choice "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" Some establishments are still like that sadly mr abby wabby The moment I first seen this movie and I seen the elephant don't got gloves for they trunks I was like HEALTH HAZARD! 😂lmao puffered fish The ONLY thing I can think of when I see this scene is how unsanitary that ice cream place is XD xin yi zou The thing that always is in my mind is that Judy is my name as well 😂😂😂 warrior dragon564 Got a genuine laugh outta me when i read the description about he uncensored version, lol The killer Me: sees naked animals gagging Also me: sees Marina without her off the hook outfit THIS JUST GROSS AND DISGUSTANG blazelth Only real flaw I can spot: showing Bellweather as the villain in the "trailer". They went out of their way to hide the fact that she was the villain in all the advertising so it could be a big shock once the reveal happened in the movie sea slat Welcome to the Kill Count, where we tally up the victim in all our favorite horror movies! I'm James A. Janisse and today we're looking at Zootopia anonymous FINALLY I GOT WHAT THE HELL I WANTED HE KILLED HER YASS IT FINALLY MAKES SENS Battlr bin me: expects a short fan film casually looks at the duration bar at the bottom left corner me: confused screaming Make sure that you people loved our collection of the best Zootopia Fanfiction Lemon stories, that we are providing you guys. Please share this as much as possible. Zootopia fanfiction Crossover People Also Like the Zootopia Fanfiction crossover stories that why! we also have a series of the best zootopia crossover fanfiction and we can also Zootopia Fanfiction Crossover as well. joseph lay Judy:“You have to let me go” Nick:“I don’t want to let you go” That broke my heart 😭 unfc Judy: "I'm in love with a fox" The entire zootopia universe: "Say sike rn" susanana Nick: “honey tell them to buzz off” “honey who is it?” Awe he already has little names to call Judy 🥺🥰😂 skelei bones Me: sees Miles Walker Miles Walker: future mayor Me: he is evil 😏 max jordon "i call bull.." Nick: "close.. but no dice.. its a buffalo!" swear jokes no3 drive Is everyone just going to skip past the part where Nick goes “and I’m her boy toy 😏 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯” jennings Y'all see the phone, during Nick's song, that shows the sheep holding a gun? destiny ganfic " I bet you use your hand everynight" I laughed so hard when judy said that Alpha 3.o Disney wouldn't have the guts to make a sequel like this. kurt langberg Coffee? Favorite Heroes - Soldier 76 (Overwatch)
Overwatch quickly took the world by storm with its awesome gameplay, fascinating mythos, and colorful characters. The story is slowly filling in its own gaps with various comics and additional sources, which is why some characters and elements are a lot more fulfilled than others at the moment. This mayyyy be a little preemptive as a result but y’know what? Soldier 76 is my badass grand dad and I’m gonna talk about him. Jack Morrison was a young man that joined the military when he pretty much went though the Captain America procedure when the government picked him for a super soldier initiative with a few other soldiers. It was there he met Gabriel Reyes, and the two became fast friends.
In the wake of the Omnic Crisis (more on that later), Jack and Gabriel became the seeds that planted the tree of the international strikeforce Overwatch. Together, they, along with the rest of Overwatch, helped resolve the issue and save everyone whooooo. BUT Jack shined so very much in the battlefield that he was given the position of lead commander of Overwatch, creating a massive rift between him and Gabriel. With time, people grew to resent Overwatch, and in the face of massive controversies, Gabriel lead his own faction of loyalists into a rebellion that ended in a huge explosion and the apparent deaths of Gabriel and Jack. Shit happens. BUT as you can probably guess Jack survived and is now still operating as the vigilante Soldier 76.
So, I mentioned the Omnic Crisis earlier, which was the result of corporate pigs hotwiring shut down omics (sentient robots) into becoming killing machines. This not only killed many innocents, but created a massive prejudice against Omnics, many of which are still entirely innocent. SOOOOUND FAMILIAR? I really do think 2016 is a huge era for new civil rights movements, which is why we have recent works voicing relevant views on the manner like Zootopia and, well, Overwatch. The Omnics are treated as a minority that humans still fear and hate, the parallels to real life minorities are very clear. It was Jack that lead the assaults to protect people when Omnics went out of control, and that was when he was at his prime. He was famous, he was adored, but with time, lost favor with people. A lot of this is interpretation, but I’m willing to wager a lot of this was because of prejudice towards Omnics. When Jack, in essence, stopped killing them because they weren’t threatening people, everyone turned on him. It’s also very heavily implied that Gabriel himself was anti-omnic (mostly by Talon’s agenda).
But Jack was genuine enough to stick by his guns. He believes in a very raw sense of justice, and is disgusted by Anti-Omnic street gangs. Of course it was this steadfast nature that costed Overwatch its existence. As Soldier 76, Jack refuses to allow himself to be called a hero. A man whose face was once everywhere and known by all now hides behind his mask and a moniker. A penance of sorts. He doesn’t feel he deserves any glory, he’s just doing right by himself. One could argue that his motives are a bit selfish--before all else he’s trying to solve the puzzle of just what went wrong within Overwatch, but he’s never too busy to help the little guy. After all, would a truly selfish man ever stop to save a destitute block from the tyranny of an Anti-Omnic street gang? Would he throw himself on top of a little girl that fell to the floor when one of the gangsters threw a loose grenade at her? Hell no. Jack, whether he wants to or not, is a hero at heart.
There’s also his relationship with Gabriel, who was brought back to life by Mercy and emerged from the same explosion Jack did as Reaper. They have a very Professor X/Magneto vibe to them (though comparing Reaper to Magneto might be a little generous from a moral standpoint). Jack/Gabriel is probably one of the most popular darkships on Tumblr, and it’s no surprise. If things had gone Jack’s way, they’d still be best friends, but Gabriel’s anger and envy got in the way. In a world basically yelling at him from all directions, Soldier 76 is just that, a soldier doing his best. As more of the background and such of Overwatch is revealed I wonder how he’ll develop, but right this second, he’s in the good books, and is a shining example of a hero that I feel is especially applicable to our social climate today.
